THE COOLEST THING EVER!!!!!!

I had two customers visit me this weekend at CTRF, and they shared with me the coolest thing ever! Last year, they were henna customers...and right before their henna faded away completely...they got them TATTOOED on!!! How wicked is that?!?

And her friend had also gotten a henna and later made it a tattoo. Unfortunately, I don't have that before picture, but here's a copy of the after!

I was super thrilled by this! It totally made my day =) Two people that I did henna on will have my artwork on them FOREVER! I feel so loved =)

CTRF - Robin Hood's Springtime Festival

I had a great time at the Robin Hood Springtime Festival the past 3 weekends. It had a bumpy start with the weather (rain, winds of 45 mph!) but the subsequent 2 weekends were excellent. Next year it's going to be 5 weekends long!

I am sad to say that I will NOT be vending at the Fall CTRF show. The weather has been super wonky and things haven't been going very well for me, so I decided to not do that show.

The good news is that the creater's of that show has a SPRING CTRF show...so I will be there in May! COME ON OUT and look for me!!! It's 3 weekends long...so come find me.

I may also be doing a few other short shows come the spring/fall...check the website often for updates!

Yesterday I did my friend Barna's bridal henna...and I also did her mom and sister's too...it took a bit longer than I expected. We started around 7:30pm and I didn't finish until 2:30am!!!

Library Demo

Good morning,
I just wanted to post a few pictures from the henna demo I did at the Washington Township Public Library in Long Valley, NJ. The traffic was horrendous! Instead of taking me 1.5 hours, it took 2.5 hours!

So I finally made it, and there was a huge crowd of people! Last year, I think I had a dozen teens. This year, I easily did 30 teens and 4 adults. I think it was well recieved and I got interviewed by the local paper!

Well...the good news is:
- I reconnected with a friend that I haven't seen in over 4 years
- Shared a trailer with her and her family...accompanied by GOOD food, and hugs from her 7 year old daughter!
- bought some mead *g*

the bad news is:
- lost lots of $
- spent $ on mead (ok...maybe that really isn't bad, but financially...)
- cold and raining =(

So...it was the luck of the draw, being May and all, and truly traditional weather =P

Just to update everyone...

I *will* be at Celebration of Celts both days (Saturday 9am-midnight & Sunday 10am-6pm) on May 3-4, 2008. And I *might* be accompanied by Peggy (previous collegue from NYRF) who will be face painting! So come on out and visit us!

Also, I will be doing henna for my friend Barna for her wedding on Thursday 6/26/08. I will defintely post pictures from that! Also, she's having her mendhi party that Friday 6/27/08 where I will *not* be working...so I should be able to post some pics of whatever I get done on myself...cool, huh?

HOT, HUMID, MUGGY...well if you were there, you'd know what I mean =P

Here are some fabulous designs I did up this past weekend...dispite the horrid conditions!

Guess what those 6 "things" on his arm are? This symbol is the symbol of a warrior!

8 hours later...it'll get darker over the next 16-24 hours!

Opening weekend was great =) There were a bunch of people...and I had fun...it's always nice to see everyone that you haven't seen since the previous year!

I even got to jam on my drum with Lyn and Tony in Mystic's Way =)

Tribal Bonfire...

No henna business for Gina =(

It was a lovely event...I saw some wonderful bellydancing acts and drum solos...

BUT...

I didn't do any henna business. So I will be emailing the coordinator soon (I've been crazy busy, but when I get a moment) and tell her that I am recommending that half day vending should be from 9 or 10am until 4pm. I had a few dancers (maybe 3) say that they wished I was there earlier...they would have gotten henna after they (pick one): taught their class, in between class, and/or before the show. Once the show went on...I had no one walk by.

Ah well...a learning experience.

I am greatful for the opportunity...but wish I had some henna business.

Hopefully, next time...

The workshop went very well yesterday! The library was great and it was lovely to meet Ms. H (Tish's friend) at the library in the Township of Washington. (check it out...I'm listed on the website!)

I ended up doing henna on 6 young girls and 3 moms =)

The girls were a little shy at first, but I broke the ice by doing henna on my friend Tish...

All in all, I think it went really well. Tish took a copy of my handout and permission slip to bring back to her library for her director to see. She'd like me to do a workshop at her library too.

Who knows? I may be at another library in NJ in the near future (or this fall).

What an awesome day! The weather was humid, but that meant that the henna stayed wet longer thereby getting a good deep stain.

New Flash!

On Friday, March 2, 2007 I will be at South Kortright HS demonstrating HENNA. I'll actually be conducting several workshops...the topics include: Medieval life, Life as a Scribe (Calligraphy & Illumination), Bookbinding (limp binding) and henna (history and demo)!

I've very excited...I wrote up my very first permission slip! I'll try to upload it online so you can and/or use it in the future. Check back on that ok!

AND...if I haven't mentioned before...I'm planning on getting my certification in henna. Now it's not mandatory...it's a voluntary practice that will one day lead to something more...you can read more about it here. It's run by International Certification of Natural Henna Artist (ICNHA).

My first weekend of NYRF was great! It was technically the 2nd weekend, but I was away last weekend at my cousin's wedding.

I came across these old henna pictures that I did years ago. I just wanted to post a few henna pictures to give an idea of the kind of work that I do.

This is a back piece that I did in 2004 of Horus.

This is a really cool Goat's skull that the owner asked me to henna in 2005. He told me to do whatever I wanted, and left his walking stick with me. When he came back 4 hours later, this is what I presented to him. He absolutely LOVED it =) This was a really fun piece to do.
